Frequently Asked Questions

Below are some of the most commonly asked questions regarding sports training and the work I do at Belfast Chen Style Tai Chi School. However, if you don’t find the answer you are looking for, please give me a call or send me a note and I will get back to you as soon as possible.

What will I learn?

Beginners classes will be taught at a slow pace to ensure each student has the chance to learn the basic principles of Tai Chi (Taiji quan) and Chi Kung (Qi Gong). Over time each student will develop an awareness of a full range of Chen Style Tai Chi routines including meditation (zhan zhuang), warm-up exercises, Qigong breathing techniques, silk reeling exercises, short/long forms and additional conditioning programmes to suit students of all levels.

Do you offer small classes to accommodate for COVID-19?

Yes, Julie-Anne can offer smaller classes for anyone with complex medical conditions, or for those who enjoy training in a smaller group setting. The venue chosen for this is Maitri Studio & Physio Works NI.

Can I purchase a gift voucher for T'ai Chi classes?

Yes, Julie-Anne offers gift vouchers for T'ai Chi classes and complementary therapy treatments. The expiry date for all purchased vouchers is 6 months.

What if I have health problems?

If you are unsure as to whether or not you should practise T'ai Chi or Chi Kung due to any health problems, please consult your doctor.  While every reasonable effort is made in the course of the sessions and classes to provide a practice that is suitable for the students, it is the duty of the student to inform Julie-Anne of any illnesses or weakness of whatever nature.

I don't have much of a memory is the form hard to remember?

Julie-Anne breaks down each phase of the form into easily memorable pieces, which are repeated until memorised.

What should I wear to class?

It is essential that clothes do not limit your mobility. Choose clothes you feel good in, for example, comfortable track-suit bottoms, a casual track-suit bottoms, a casual t-shirt, a zip-up sweatshirt, and lightweight trainers. Footwear for T'ai Chi needs to be light and comfortable. Please bring a bottle of water to class.
